Religious Education

Religious Education

Our curriculum develops pupils’ aspirations so that they strive to be the best that they can be. The R.E curriculum promotes curiosity and a thirst for learning. We aim to enrich our students’ time in our school with memorable experiences. An enquiry approach enables the subject knowledge, skills, vocabulary and opportunities for talk, to be taught so that our pupils have the tools to be successful in learning and in life. We aim for pupils to know about, understand, ask questions and reflect about a range of religions and worldviews

Jigsaw RE is mapped against the agreed syllabus for Coventry (SACRE) and the planning as a basis for our lessons. Interwoven throughout are opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development that encourage children to evaluate and critically think.Children study Christianity in every year group alongside other religions. Knowledge organisers identify key knowledge and help pupils with remembering more.

Every year group teaches the main religions. Christianity is taught in every year group plus Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and also includes links to Humanism. Each year group has a discovery owl. The idea is that the owls are sources of wisdom and ask children questions and the children can ask them questions also. These are used in every lesson to support the children with their enquiry question.
Within our RE lessons there are themes for each religion. Each theme follows a 4-step enquiry model- Engagement, Investigation, Evaluation and Expression.

We aim for all of our children to leave Aldermoor Farm Primary equipped with the RE skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the curriculum at KS3 and for life as an adult in the wider world.

Reviews in R.E include work scrutinies, learning walks, pupil and staff voice. All of this information is gathered and reviewed. It is used to inform further curriculum developments and provision is adapted accordingly.
